For some time it seemed like Madhouse had become increasingly disconnected from the still evolving interests and sounds of owner Kerri Chandler. Nothing wrong with it – it just felt like an ordinary Deep House digital label, and Kerri Chandler has been called many things and the word “ordinary” has never been one of them.

In 2017, however, Madhouse came roaring back with both classy reissues (Kerri’s Panic and Fingerprintz) and new material from people like French producer DJ Steaw (Bel Air EP) and Opolopo and duo T Williams and James Jacob on Madhouse Summer.

The new year kicks off with a new project, featuring four classic Kerri Chandler tracks remixed by an interesting and eclectic group. Detroit Swindle have a whack at Kerri’s Jersey-to-the-marrow hit (as “Matrix”) “Get Out.” Peggy Gou has an interestingly floaty and atmospheric take on “I Need You” while wisely preserving that powerful vocal, while Jimpster closes with a 7 minute dubby remix of Kerri and Jerome Sydenham’s epic “Powder.” There is probably a whole subgenre that could be created of classic tracks getting burned and churned by young DJs in records that feel like they’ve been conceived more by tour managers rather than label owners or producers. Kerri Chandler Remixed is a stand-out departure from the trend. It stands on its own.
