Detroit’s Filthiest: Midnight Funk Association

A simple single is a funk monster incubated by Detroit's Filthiest aka DJ Nasty.

Named after the last segment of the Electrifying Mojo’s show, Midnight Funk Association is a simple single, no remixes, a digital cut that can’t be contained, a funk monster incubated by Detroit’s Filthiest. Also known as DJ Nasty, Detroit’s Filthiest has taken on the attributes of a hero of American folklore lately: pushed into the limelight by Disclosure’s sampling of a track of his, “Pass Out,” on “Bang That,” he’s been taking advantage to do more than bask in the indirect glow by turning out a solid string of house releases. Now that is how you own it.

Midnight Funk Association is incendiary as a cherry bomb dropped down a sewer grate. The production is so tight it feels like it’s going to burst open: vocal eruptions, lively bass and drums that feel like they’re banging at the back of your head. There’s an instrumental cut too for walkin’ around.
