The preview for Acid Cuts, this vinyl-only release from Raw Culture is tagged #FIRE on SoundCloud and that’s the most appropriate place for this fucking neutron bomb of a record I can think of. Raw Culture is slinging this Christian Lisco EP like a gun-runner chasing Rimbaud through Aden, driving with nothing but a trunk of DJ weapons so radioactive that it’s even bleached out their names. All five tracks feature beautifully eroded basslines, stray fire from a high-strung 303 and punch-drunk drums. Floating over the top are soul vocals that give this a suitably bootleggy vibe. “68” (these are the names) brings down the house from the start and “58” dances on the ruins.

This is face-melting shit, a monster from beginning to end made for the DJs who play it raw and play without a net. I’ve looked high and low over the years for something that gave me the same sort of spiritual concussion I felt the first time I heard Armando‘s “151” and dear God, I think I found it.
