There’s been a serious buzz around this record for months now, most notably because it marks Mark Farina and Great Lakes Audio’s return to vinyl. I’m going to spoiler this by saying that yes, there really is an Anonymous; no, it’s not Farina himself; and yes, you can figure it out easily enough if you know how to do serious journalist things like type words into Google. That said, it’s worthy of being in El Hombre’s catalog and certainly in a Mushroom Jazz set – from what I gather this was meant as a tribute of sorts, and it shows. There’s a great underground vibe, not just with the quiet, ‘Round Midnight jazz minimalism, but even the FX which come and go and augment rather than overwhelm that simple but persistent beat.
