A new documentary from Chicago outfit Regressive Films will trace the history of the seminal Chicago record store, record label and aesthetic terrorist outfit Wax Trax!, the trailer of which was just posted up.

I’ve been keeping tabs on this one for awhile, not least of all because so much of any kid’s life in the late ’80s and early ’90s is tied to Wax Trax. There was tons of crossover between Chicago’s House Music scene and the acts on Wax Trax, aside from nights at Medusa’s or the white suburban kid’s holy hajj from the collar counties to the record store. You might know Shawn Christopher from “Another Sleepless Night”, but she was once known as “Jasmine Night” as a vocalist for My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult. Jim Marcus and Die Warzau engineered most of Lil Louis’ impossibly eclectic album From the Mind of Lil Louis. And so on.

Regressive earlier made their name with probably the best Chicago music documentary (of any sort) ever made, You Weren’t There: A History of Chicago Punk, 1977–1984.
