Earl Smith, known in the dance music community by the moniker DJ Spank-Spank from the legendary Acid House creators Phuture, suffered a stroke on Saturday and is currently in recovery following surgery.

A post from the Phuture Facebook page revealed the shocking news on Sunday afternoon in a call for prayers:

***From Mgmt:: Reaching out to our Music family at large. We enlist your prayers for one of our own. Earl “DJ Spank-Spank” Smith, co-founder of Phuture suffered a stroke last night. We ask for your prayers as we continue to believe in a full recovery for him. Please watch this space for updates. We thank you in advance for your prayers and support”. Acid House 4 Life.

In an update this morning, a new post on Phuture’s page┬árevealed that “surgery went well and he’s now recognizing people, places and things.” The post encourages people to stay in the fight and send positive thoughts and energy, as well as share pictures that his extended family may have collected over the years.

Update on our brother and friend DJ SPANK Spank. First…thank you for all the support and for all your prayers. He is a fighter and he certainly felt your fight for him as well! Surgery went well and he’s now recognizing people, places and things. Stay in the fight with us. Send your positive thoughts and energy. We had an idea to share with him pics that his extended music family may have collected over the years. We will gladly share with him so he knows we are all walking this journey with him. Side by side.
