You know that guy who’s always posting his mixes and his fucking Lyft codes in threads and sometimes it’s about somebody dying or a kind gesture toward someone and it’s so wildly inappropriate you want to send about 50 pizzas from a shithole like Domino’s to his house and let him think about bad pizza, socially appropriate behavior and where it went wrong in his life?

I ran into that guy online today and lost it, because if there is one event you don’t spam with your CHIBIZA mix or your long-awaited CHIBERIA PART TWO set recorded in your mancave before a Facebook Live audience of your cousin and her six cats, it’s what has now become an annual tradition in Chicago – The Frankie Knuckles Birthday Tribute, For Frankie, taking place January 15, 2017 at Smartbar.

This year’s line-up is a shift from the Kings of House Music of previous years (and his last birthday party before he passed away). On the bill this year is Ralphi Rosario. Frankie often spoke of the massive respect he had for Ralphi – back in 2009, Red Bull gave him his choice of anyone in Chicago to play with:

The whole thing came together last minute. Red Bull was in Chicago and at the very last minute they called to see if I was going to be in town. They’ve been trying to get me to do it for the last ten years, but I was never available. After everything had been set up they said, “Who would you like to play with you?” and I was like “Ralphi [Rosario].”

Also joining Ralphi are the Sunday night crew from Queen!: Derrick Carter, Michael Serafini and Garrett David along with Chicago’s Lady D, and Queen! hosts Lucy Stoole, Jojo Baby, Ivory (Christian Rodriguez) and guest hosts Beverly Lately and Lila Star.

All proceeds go to the Frankie Knuckles Foundation. Tickets are available now for $15 and will probably sell out.
