They say you can tell a lot about a person based upon what he does in a time of crisis. If that’s also true of communities, it says a lot about House Music to observe the multitude of Fukushima, Haiti and now Hurricane Sandy relief events; and the way our small, scattered tribe has banded together to help those most in need.

From New York itself comes House For Hope, an event organized in part by our friend Rissa Garcia of NightChild Records to “provide the many families in need on Staten Island and beyond”.

First there’s an event: People Hold On, going off this Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Santos Party House (100 Lafayette Street in New York) – donations at the door and collections inside.

And if you’re not in New York, here is an online fundraiser, House For Hope, which is already 1/3rd of the way to its goal with 5 days remaining. This is a modest $1000 goal and I’m sure they can meet it if the House Music community worldwide pitches in.

From the official page:

In an effort to relieve some pain caused by the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, we are collecting funds as well as supplies to provide the many families in need on Staten Island and beyond

Hurricane Sandy has left an enormous hole in the hearts of many and we would like to do our best to bring a smile and lend a helping hand to as many people as possible.

The money raised will be used to buy much needed supplies for those that have lost nearly everything including their homes and prized possessions.

We call on you to donate whatever you can and find it in your hearts and show some compassion and shed some light in hours of darkness.

We are holding an event on Saturday Nov 10th at Santos Party House where will be collecting funds and other things like t shirts, socks, toys, blankets etc

We are not an official charity but compassionate people who care and want to lend a much needed helping hand….100% of our efforts will go to those that need our help.

And anyone in the NYC area that wishes to donate anything — gift cards from Home Depot/Lowes or any type of home store are perhaps a good idea given the magnitude of restoration necessary as people rebuild their homes — can email info@nightchildrecords.com for drop off/pick up information.
