The Chosen Few DJs have announced the line-up for the 2015 Chosen Few Picnic.
Louie Vega and Kenny Dope (Masters at Work, NYC) are among the guests at this year’s event — the 25th annual, to be sure — along with Chicago’s own Derrick Carter, Stan Zeff of Atlanta’s TAMBOR parties and Chicago’s Keith Fobs and Greg Gray.
The Chosen Few Picnic will be held this July 4 2015 in Jackson Park on the South Side of Chicago.
“When we first gathered behind the Museum of Science & Industry in 1990, we had no idea that our little ‘love fest’ would become a cultural phenomenon that draws people from everywhere,” Chosen Few DJ founder Wayne Williams said in a release. “We are excited to commemorate 25 years of celebrating the roots of house music, which has grown from its Chicago birthplace into a multifaceted global sound.”
The Chosen Few DJs are Chicago’s longest running DJ collective, formed in the first waking moments of Chicago’s — and thus the world’s — House Music scene. Along with founding member Wayne Williams, the Chosen Few DJs are Jesse Saunders, Tony Hatchett, Alan King, Andre Hatchett, Terry Hunter and Mike Dunn.
The Chosen Few Picnic began as a sort of reunion for friends and family of Chicago’s first House Music generation and evolved into one of the nation’s largest real House Music events. Held now in Jackson Park on the city’s South Side Independence Day weekend, the Chosen Few Picnic usually pulls somewhere north of 35 to 40,000 people.
General admission and VIP packages go on sale in April via chosenfewdjs.com. People from out of town may want to start planning their hotel arrangements now due to some significant other happenings in Chicago over July 4th weekend, including the Grateful Dead shows at Wrigley Field.
