Free Download: Disco Pioneer John Morales’ Unreleased Mix of Barry White’s Let The Music Play

A new M+M edit is always worthy of a new post. Get lost in this Un-Released M+M Alt Mix of Barry White’s “Let The Music Play”, in honor of Barry White’s birthday, as a free gift to the world from Disco mix pioneer John Morales of M+M Edits fame.

Taken originally from Barry White’s 1975 album of the same name, “Let The Music Play” had a 2012 re-release with remastered tracks, including a significantly shorter and different version from Morales. This one clocks in at nearly eleven and a half minutes of lush strings and the crooner’s unmistakable chops.

A private memory? When I was 17 years old, I moved to Florida for a few months, and found a job washing dishes in the restaurant of a cheap hotel in the central part of the state. I worked the graveyard shift (which meant there were about four actual dishes to wash in a seven hour stint) and used to drive around the city after work with the cook, a reformed drug dealer from Wichita named Frank. Frank had been through rehab recently, and though he’d left the criminal life behind, he still admitted an addiction to the lifestyle, which was manifested here in working three menial jobs to bankroll it – the tracksuits, the jewelery, and most of all the most pimped-out pimpmobile the world has ever seen.

Some people had their first kiss to Barry White; some people lost their virginity. I got to ride shotgun with an ex-pimp along the beach, a skinny kid in a giant white Cadillac blasting Barry White at seven in the morning.
