The Next 10

While going through video footage we've shot in the course of 5 Magazine's 10 years, it struck me how things have changed in a very short span of time. The evolution of the music industry is forever tied with that of technology, sometimes at the expense of artistry. Yet at the same time technology enhances it, creates new possibilities for sound and the presentation of it. And Lord knows it's certainly made it easier and more accessible for everyone to express their musical vision. So in lieu of a formal editor's note, we asked 12 insiders in the dance music industry to gaze into the proverbial crystal ball and give their predictions as to how the art and business will be three, five or ten years from now.

IN FIVE TO TEN YEARS, DJs who cannot function without digital music will hit a wall and be forced to turn back to the analog basics in some way, shape or form, as...

Rees Urban: What The Future Looks Like

AT THIS POINT I'M absolutely lost with the direction of dance music. It's at an all time high as far as the fanbase is under the umbrella of EDM, but at an all time...

Mark Farina: What The Future Looks Like

TEN YEARS FROM NOW... good music will still be good music and bad will still be bad. All the sub-genres established by the early sounds of House and Techno will change names/titles and be...
